The fondant I made for class this past week turned out to be a bit too soft but I hated to see it go to waste so I decided to make a small cake this afternoon to keep my mind busy. Sure there's a ton of laundry to do but that's not near as fun :)
This is a six inch chocolate, double layer round cake covered with homemade kahlua buttercream and fondant icing. My mom will be happy to know I used gloves and plan to use gloves always when working with fondant. My mom thinks it's gross to have someone else's hands all over the icing...good point.

So, with my hands washed and my gloves on I worked at hardening up the fondant enough to hopefully cover a cake. I am pretty pleased with the result.
I am discovering that fondant, while it has endless possibilities is not as easy to work with as I had hoped. Practice makes perfect and I intend to master fondant even if it takes me a long time. I hope part of the reason this was difficult to smooth was because I didn't add enough sugar to begin with, making any decorations I tried more difficult to mold. This is a learning process.
I think you are doing pretty amazing, personally! I watch those cake challenges all the time, and even the pro’s have a hard time. You’re going to be great!!
